NXTKey Awarded Kigali Innovation City (KIC) Smart City Project

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has awarded the Kigali Innovation City (KIC) Smart City Project to NXTKey Corporation funded through a grant by The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

The Government of Rwanda, through Rwanda Development Board (RDB), and Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investment platform is currently planning KIC, a mixed-use development and technology innovation hub to be situated in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital and largest city.

KIC is being developed to be a mixed-use, master-planned, innovation city to be situated on 60 hectares of land in Kigali, Rwanda. KIC will seek to facilitate the development of pan-African talent and act as a technology innovation hub. Its plan includes four universities, office spaces, and start-up business incubators, alongside supporting facilities for retail, hospitality and accommodation.

KIC will serve as a hub for the technology industry in Rwanda, and RDB plans for KIC to house the offices of global and local technology companies. KIC is also expected to serve as a model for smart city technology implementation both nationally and regionally.

NXTKey Corporation is the City of Kigali’s (CoK) technology partner for their Smart City initiatives and is currently supporting them with the Smart City implementation and Vision 2050 Master Plan.

Under the leadership of Vishal Currie, VP of Technology Consulting, NXTKey’s Global Programs provides financial and technical assistance through cost-share agreements with The U.S. Government Entities and Development Banks to provide Grants in emerging markets.
